Ten years ago, I had the opportunity to meet Chief Michael Ishii from the Hawthorne (CA) Police Department. At the time, Chief Ishii was a captain, but it’s no surprise that his innovative spirit led to him ultimately being appointed the Chief of Police. Fast-forward to today and Chief Ishii continues to pioneer how public safety officials serve their communities with an emphasis on working smarter and maintaining a positive environment – both within the police department and among the Hawthorne community.I recently sat down with Chief Ishii to hear how things have changed over his 32-year career and what excites him about the future of law enforcement and public safety. Chief Ishii has introduced a myriad of forward-thinking initiatives and approaches including, but not limited to, Coffee with a Cop, Ride to Live, the Neighborhood Mobile Substation, and Care4Blue. Even during the challenges posed by a once-in-a-generation global pandemic, Chief Ishii has maintained an emphasis on havi
The Challenge The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) serves the third-most populous county in Oregon with approximately 500 sworn and civilian staff. In 2018, the department began to outgrow its homegrown records management system (RMS) as the county urbanized and crime began to increase. CCSO migrated to Versaterm’s RMS which quickly proved to be a costly and destructive investment. The Versaterm implementation took roughly 3,000 hours and cost the agency significant overtime pay. Post-deployment, deputies felt that Versaterm was clunky, slow, and cumbersome for entering data. Reporting time increased and crime analysis suffered as a result. The Solution In order to quickly course correct, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office opted for Mark43’s user-friendly and cloud-based RMS. The department chose Mark43 for its modern look-and-feel and dedicated team of implementation specialists. The difference was immediately felt on the front-line. “With Mark43, the ease of which deputies
The Challenge When the 188 sworn officers of the Richmond Police Department take to the streets every day, they’re making the city a safer place to live, by preventing crime and catching criminals. But for several years, technology stood in the way of the department’s mission to protect the city’s 102,000 citizens. Specifically, the department’s aging records management system (RMS) made it difficult for officers to manage daily crime reports.“We document everything from a found wallet on the street to multiple homicides involving multiple suspects and victims. Unfortunately, we had a server-based solution that was not user-friendly at all, and our reporting was very time-consuming.”– Lieutenant Timothy Gard of the Richmond Police Department. The Solution The Richmond Police Department chose Mark43 for its ease of use, its dedicated team of implementation specialists, and the peace of mind that comes with using an RMS powered by AWS GovCloud. With Mark43 RMS, Richmond Police Department
